The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, is inviting applications for an academic/tenured track Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) positions for an anesthesiologist at associate or full professor levels. Candidates will be strongly interested in perioperative medicine and medical education.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools. The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a growing research and education-focused Department, currently consisting of 7 Full-Time Academic Faculty and almost 200 Clinical Faculty across four teaching hospitals. The Department has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency program and a well-developed subspecialty fellowship program. The Department also offers clinical experience to medical students and residents from other training programs during their elective anesthesia rotations. Research groups within the Department are involved in clinical trials that span a wide spectrum of perioperative and pain medicine. The Department's research strengths are in the areas of neuro-immune contributions to chronic pain states; the neurobiology of pain; prenatal iron deficiency; mechanisms of myocardial protection and ischemia-reperfusion injury; nutritional support and immunometabolism; chronic post-surgical pain and persistent opioid use; psychological interventions and pediatric chronic pain; regional anesthesia and perioperative outcomes.

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to mentor and teach medical students, residents and fellows, in addition to supervising summer and elective research students. The role involves participation in clinical care, teaching, research, and quality improvement. Expectations include knowledge dissemination and research impact, reviewed annually with the Chair and the Dean of the Faculty. The successful candidate will be recognized internationally through scholarly accomplishment in research and teaching. Preference will be given to individuals with administrative and leadership experience in an academic setting.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a physician (MD), with FRCPC or equivalent in anesthesiology or be eligible for FRCPC application and will also be eligible for licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The ideal candidate will have received advanced training in educational scholarship and will have a strong record of scholarship in preoperative optimization and perioperative medicine.
