Description:

The Department of Medicine, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for an Academic Rheumatologist (Clinician Educator) within the Division of Rheumatology.

This position is designed for a clinician with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in medical education. The role is structured within an Alternative Funding Plan (AFP) model with an approximate distribution of 70% clinical service and 30% academic time focused on education.

successful applicant will contribute to high-quality clinical care while advancing the educational mission of the Division through teaching, curriculum development, mentorship, and educational leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical (Approximately 70%)

  • Provide high-quality rheumatology care in ambulatory and/or inpatient settings within Alberta Health Services
  • Participate in divisional clinical service responsibilities, including call coverage
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary care teams

Education (Approximately 30%)

  • Teach and supervise all levels of trainees including undergraduate medical students, internal medicine residents, and rheumatology subspecialty trainees
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate innovative educational curricula
  • Contribute to competency-based medical education (CBME) initiatives
  • Mentor learners and support faculty development
  • Participate in educational leadership roles within the Division and Department

Scholarship and Service

  • Engage in scholarly activity in medical education and/or clinical research
  • Participate in divisional, departmental, and institutional service activities

Qualifications:

  • MD (or equivalent)
  • Completion of accredited training in Rheumatology
  • Certification in Rheumatology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent)
  • Eligibility for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • Eligibility to work and reside in Alberta

  • Proven ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams
  • Evidence of initiative, innovation, and leadership in academic or clinical settings
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Engagement in educational scholarship is preferred

Must read, write, and speak English.
