Description:

The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a dedicated and passionate Academic Teaching Physician – Clinician Teacher to join our team in a permanent full-time role starting January 1, 2026. This position is funded through the Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP) and offers a unique opportunity to combine high-quality patient care with meaningful contributions to medical education in partnership with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary.

FTE Breakdown: 1.00, 80% Clinical 20% Education

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide care for a patient panel at the Central Teaching Clinic, located at the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre
    Minimum 0.6 FTE (3 days/week: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays)
    Option to increase to 0.8 FTE (4 days/week: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)
    Up to 0.2 FTE of clinical work outside the Academic Teaching Clinics may be considered within the contract
    Participate in after-hours care, including evening clinics
  • Provide task and patient coverage for colleagues as needed
  • Participate in the Alberta Triplicate Prescription Program
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical program development

Educational Responsibilities:

  • Minimum 20% of total FTE dedicated to approved educational activities in collaboration with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary
  • Serve as a primary preceptor for family medicine residents
  • Provide clinical teaching and assessment to medical students, clerks, and residents
  • Participate in Interprofessional Education and relevant academic activities
  • Attend meetings such as clinical operations, academic business, and clinical team meetings when available
  • Educational roles and FTE allocation will be tailored in discussion with the successful candidate

Qualifications:

  • AHS Privileges through a Medical Staff appointment with the Section of Community Primary Care of the Department of Family Medicine
  • Academic Appointment with the Department of Family Medicine
  • Clinical teaching experience is considered an asset
  • Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) 

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
