The Department of Anesthesiology Perioperative and Pain Medicine, Alberta Health Services Calgary, invites applications for the position of Alberta Children’s Hospital Medical Leader of Complex Pediatric Pain in Calgary. Reports to the Department Lead of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine. In a competent and professional manner, the ACH Medical Leader of Complex Pain will: · Provide medical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team at the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) who provide treatment to acute and chronic pediatric pain patients. · The contractor is responsible to the Corridor Clinical Department Lead, through the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine’s ACH Section Chief, for clinical administration of the Pediatric Complex Pain program located at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. · The medical leader of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Complex Pain Program is responsible for the full scope of practice of the Complex Pain Clinic and is responsible for ensuring an outpatient service is provided for chronic and complex pediatric pain patients, including consultant coverage of outpatient pain consultations for complex, chronic and palliative pain, through existing clinic infrastructure. Calgary Highlights: Calgary is approximately 80km east of the Canadian Rockies and is located in the transition zone between the Rocky Mountain Foothills and the Canadian prairies. It is the largest city in Alberta, with a metropolitan population of 1,392,609 people (Statistics Canada, 2016). The city is large in physical area, consisting of an inner city surrounded by suburban communities of various densities. Calgary’s climate is greatly influenced by the city’s elevation and proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Calgary’s winters are broken up by warm, dry Chinook winds that routinely blow into the city from over the mountains during the winter months. There is easy access to many world class outdoor/mountain pursuits such as skiing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking and golf. Calgary has a vibrant theatre, art, food, sports and music community. It was designated as one of the cultural capitals of Canada in 2012. The city features an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars, cultural venues, public squares and shopping. |
Qualifications:
Applicants must be a qualified MD, with specialist certification in anesthesiology, with eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta for independent anesthesia care. They will have a pediatric anesthesia fellowship and a demonstrable sustained commitment to pediatric complex pain care. The successful Candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team; superior interpersonal communication skills; and a strong commitment to delivering innovative pain care. |
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Must read, write and speak English. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority. |
