Alberta Health Services in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, invites applications for a full- time, Fee for Service (FFS), Staff Physiatrist with an interest in neurorehabilitation to be based at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health- education institutions. The University is home to over 38,000 students with over 15,000 faculty and staff.

 

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Department of Medicine is home to 13 full-time academic physiatrists and researchers and approximately 30 associated clinical academic colleagues. The Division has one of the longest running and best-known Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency training programs in Canada and currently has 14 full-time medical trainees. Faculty members also host and supervise a number of graduate students in a variety of disciplines.

 

In addition to clinical training, the Division of PMR has a record of strong and well-funded research, particularly in the areas of spinal cord injury treatment and recovery, neuro-prosthetics and neural integration and recovery. Our Division members have been the recipients of many national and international awards recognizing their contributions to rehabilitation science and education. The Division of PMR is also strongly associated with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the largest freestanding rehabilitation hospitals in North America, serving all of Northern Alberta, parts of British Columbia, and northern Canada. Furthermore, the division proudly hosts the Institute of Smart Augmentative and Restorative Technologies and Health Innovations (iSMART), a multidisciplinary and cross-functional research hub dedicated to advancing health innovations that focus on injury prevention, functional restoration, and the development of technologically-driven solutions to enhance the capabilities and well-being of individuals with diverse abilities.

 

Key accountabilities of the Acquired Brain Injury Physiatrist will include, but will not be limited to:  inpatient consultation and outpatient clinics at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital; supervision of learners on clinical rotations, educational contributions to the Physiatry (PMR) residency program and undergraduate medical education; and participation in relevant clinical research initiatives.  

The successful candidate will be an MD who has or is eligible for certification in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation or currently be enrolled in a Physical Medicine Residency Program and is eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
