Acute Care Alberta is the provincial health agency dedicated to overseeing the governance and coordination of high-quality, timely, and compassionate acute care services across the province when Albertans need it most. The Associate Chief Medical Officer, ACA acknowledges that he/she is in an Acute Care Alberta leadership role and is acting as a representative of Acute Care Alberta. The ACMO will provide oversight, direction, and advice to the location and/or program of Services and supports the effective engagement of physicians within Acute Care Alberta. As such, there must be a commitment to excellence in providing an integrated, accessible, and accountable health care system. Acute Care Alberta is committed to providing services based on population needs and promoting a shared responsibility for improved health. The ACMO is responsible and accountable to create and implement a sustainable, systematic approach to medical staff strategies and initiatives. The ACMO will promote the vision for medical staff across the province by providing strategic direction, prioritization and lead implementation of quality and safety initiatives in the organization, guiding medical staff engagement and focusing on achieving measurable improvement. The ACMO will oversee and direct medical engagement to support the design, development and implementation of policies, tools and processes to support medical staff.
Description:
The ACMO will provide leadership support for provincial programs and acute care service delivery oversight including capacity and flow. Continuous quality improvement including design and implementation of efficiencies, development of best practices and establishment of standards of practice. Lead workforce planning and recruitment/retention. Creating and implementing a sustainable, systematic approach to acute care physician resource management and medical staff workforce strategies. Support ACA in ensuring the new Alberta Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules are drafted, implemented and followed by ACA organizations, which include Alberta Health Services, Covenant Health, Cancer Care Alberta, Emergency Health Services, and Give Life Alberta and perform any roles as defined within the new bylaws.
Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, Acute Care Alberta, the ACMO will function in a partnership relationship with other members of the ACA management and leadership team including Provincial Programs, Acute Care Service Delivery Oversight programs and Medical Leaders within ACA and across other agencies to fulfill the objectives of ACA.
Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be eligible for independent medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent professional body. At least 5 years’ leadership experience in health care operations with experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful record of achievement as a medical leader strategic planning and service delivery in a large and diverse organization, as well as specific and extensive experience in medical staff workforce management and quality improvement and research. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster partnerships and achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization.
