Alberta Health Services (AHS) has a key leadership position available for Associate Medical Director for the provincial Health Link (HL) 811 program. In this position, you will be part of a leadership team that will improve health care for the province.

 
Health Link 811 is a free 24/7 health advice and information line for Albertans with non-emergency health inquiries. The program supports patients to be cared for in the most appropriate setting by the most appropriate care provider and keeps appropriate patients out of emergency departments/urgent care centres. It is comprised of approximately 25 distinct programs such as nurse triage, virtual MD, addiction and mental health helpline, rehabilitation support line, dementia advice, tobacco cessation, appointment booking and more. Annually, the Health Link program call volume is over 1.3 million.

 

The Associate Medical Director reports to the Medical Director, HL who provides leadership to approximately 90 physicians who are part of the Health Link Virtual MD program. The Associate Medical Director also supports the Medical Director with the strategic development of projects and services, in partnership with the Health Link operational leadership team, to maximize the benefit of Health Link 811 across the province.

Description:
 

The Associate Medical Director, Health Link, collaborates with the Health Link leadership team in strategic planning and development of Health Link services. They assist the Medical Director with quality improvement activities, including monthly review of calls that were given self-care advice and are presented to the Executive Director with the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) 1 or 2 scores.

  

Along with assisting the Medical Director with education programs for nursing staff related to quality improvement, the Associate Medical Director supports the Medical Director with Virtual MD recruitment, retention, and monitoring of quality and safety.

  

This position provides analytics of Health Link data for dissemination to Executive Leadership and/or research publications in collaboration with the Program Improvement and Integration Networks. Additionally, the role provides oversight to the content team at Health Link to review tele-triage guideline and responds to issues raised by the public, Health Link staff or other health care providers.

 

The successful candidate liaises with subject matter experts to update the guidelines and create new content and provides advice to the MyHealthAlberta content team to ensure online content is aligned with Health Link advice and best practice standards.

 

The Associate Medical Director is responsible for fostering and maintaining collaborative relationships with various stakeholders within and outside of AHS to facilitate Health Link’s objectives.

 

This is a 0.3 FTE position and can be located anywhere within Alberta.

 

Required Qualifications:
 

The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

 

In addition, the successful applicant will obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.


Preferred Qualifications:
 
Emergency medicine or Family medicine experience preferred. Leadership, Change Management, and Quality Assurance experience are assets.
