The individual will serve as a fee for service Cardiac Electrophysiologist. They will be expected to perform cardiac rhythm procedures 1 days per week and be in clinic two-half days per week. They will serve on one of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Inpatient/Consult Clinical Services (there are two based at Foothills) for approximately 6 weeks per year. They will be on call for the Cardiac Electrophysiology Service 3–4 weeks per year. They will follow patients through the Calgary Zone Cardiac Implantable Electrical Device Clinic and will have a general arrhythmia clinic. It is likely that their clinics will take place at South Health Campus. The individual will work to set up a specialized tertiary/quaternary level program in ablations of cardiac scar-related ventricular tachycardia. The individual will contribute to the education of medical students (on the wards and in the research lab), as well as Medicine/Cardiology Residents and Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows. |
The successful applicant will have a detailed understanding of clinical and basic cardiac electrophysiology. They will have completed a cardiac electrophysiology training area of focused competence (AFC) program accredited by the Royal College pf Physicians of Canada (RCPSC). They will have or be eligible to be a Diplomate of the RCPSC. The applicant should have extensive experience with pulmonary vein isolation procedures, other modalities of atrial fibrillation ablations, diagnosis of and successful ablations of supraventricular tachycardia, and the ablation of ventricular tachycardia in both patients with and without structural heart disease. The successful applicant will have experience with invasive electrophysiology studies and cardiac ablation procedures. They will have been involved in at least 300 procedures as the primary operator. The successful applicant will also be accomplished in the implantation and management of cardiac implantable electrical devices. This candidate should have been the primary operator on at least 200 CIED implantations. The successful applicant should be adept at various pacing modalities including traditional transvenous pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, left-bundle branch area pacing, and leadless pacing. The successful applicant will have an excellent track record in education. This could be demonstrated in the form of teaching awards and evaluations from prior students. |
