This is a 1 FTE position for a Geriatrician or Care of the Elderly Physician with 0.5 FTE at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and 0.5 FTE at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
Description:
The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) component comprises 0.5 FTE within Acute Geriatric Medicine. The successful physician will work independently within a busy, high-volume, high-acuity acute-care environment, caring typically for older adults with significant medical complexity, frailty and multimorbidity, with exceptions where Geriatric Medicine expertise is particularly suited to the patient’s needs. |
Clinical responsibilities include acute inpatient ward care and admissions, high-volume inpatient consultation and follow-up, and Emergency Department geriatric consultation/admissions, according to service needs. The physician must be capable of independently assessing and managing acute and potentially unstable medical conditions, prioritizing competing clinical demands, and efficiently managing a high-volume workload.
The Glenrose Hospital (GRH) component comprises 0.5FTE within Specialized Geriatric Rehabilitation and outpatient department. The successful physician will work independently and efficiently within an interdisciplinary setting providing outpatient clinic consultations and inpatient consultations for older adults with significant medical complexity and frailty. Clinical responsibilities include inpatient consultations and follow-up, and outpatient clinic consultations and follow-up of community referred patients. The physician would be able to prioritize competing clinical demands and utilize geriatric medicine principles to manage complex cases. |
Qualifications:
The position requires efficient and proportionate application of geriatric medicine principles. While comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) will be appropriate for some patients, acute-care practice will often require a focused but effective assessment of the key medical, cognitive, functional, psychosocial and disposition-related factors relevant to the clinical question. The physician must tailor assessment to patient need and acuity while maintaining timely clinical decision-making and patient flow. Candidates must demonstrate the clinical breadth, judgment, efficiency and independence required to manage the acuity, complexity and volume of the RAH Acute Geriatric Medicine service. |
Applying:
Interested candidates are asked to submit online a letter of intent, CPSA Practice Permit and Curriculum Vitae outlining their education, qualifications, and experience.
The competition will remain open until the position is filled. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted.
