QUALIFICATIONS / CHARACTERISTICS OF IDEAL CANDIDATE

This surgeon will be an active member of the Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone AHS in good standing, who has significant experience and a respected profile in the physician community. Ideally, they would belong to a section that utilizes CSFs. However, the candidate cannot be a shareholder in a private facility that has, or will be applying for, contracts with AHS.


They require effective communication skills and an ability to foster partnerships and develop relationships. They should have a strong interest in improving the surgical patient’s journey through the health care system. Experience in change management processes, operational processes and quality assurance is beneficial.

 

OVERVIEW

The primary responsibility of the Department of Surgery CSF Medical Director will be to work with CSF stakeholders (Department of Surgery Section chiefs and the section members, Department of Anesthesia leadership, CSF leadership, AHS operational administration) and the Deputy Department Head Clinical Programs and Operations, Surgical Quality and Innovation to coordinate the utilization of CSFs and the acute care facilities to optimize the delivery of care to surgical patients in the zone. SCOPE OF POSITION / DELIVERABLES

1. Operational Oversight and Management:

·         Support the sections in the operationalization of the AHS – CSF contracts, aligning the goals with the Alberta Surgical initiative and priorities of the Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone. A link to contracts is included here:

·         Develop processes for OR allocation, to maximize OR utilization.

·         Streamline the surgical schedule to minimize delays and enhance productivity.

·         Develop a process for onboarding of new surgeons to the CSFs, contract requirements and operational protocols.

 

2. Quality Assurance, Safety and Quality Improvement:

·         Establish and oversee quality assurance processes within CSFs.

·         Ensure the patient complaints process is implemented at each CSF facility for AHS contracted patients and work with the Department of Surgery Patient Concerns Coordinator to monitor and evaluate concerns.

·         Establish and monitor key performance indicators, driving continuous improvement across all sites.

 

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

·         Work with CSF stakeholders to identify facilitators and barriers to optimal use of CSFs.

·         Work with CSF stakeholders to formulate and implement innovative strategies to enhance surgical care delivery in CSFs.

·         Address concerns from Department of Surgery section members regarding their use of CSFs and help to develop resolutions.

 

ACCOUNTABILITY

This leader will work closely with the Deputy Department Head Clinical Programs and Operations, Surgical Quality and Innovation and will report to the Zone Clinical Department Head of Surgery.

 

FTE

0.3 FTE Medical Affairs Honoraria Grid

Currently $76,950.00 per annum.
