Covenant Health invites applications for Clinical Associate positions within the General Surgery Program at the Misericordia Community Hospital (MCH) in Edmonton, Alberta.
Clinical Associates are fully licensed physicians who work collaboratively with General Surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive care to surgical patients. The role supports the delivery of timely, high-quality patient care through the assessment and management of acute surgical issues, inpatient care, consultations, and after-hours coverage as required.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain clinical experience in a busy surgical environment while working within a collaborative and team-based model of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care and support for General Surgery patients under the direction of the attending General Surgeon.
- Assess and manage acute clinical concerns requiring physician intervention.
- Conduct inpatient assessments, consultations, and follow-up evaluations as required.
- Assist with admissions, discharges, patient transfers, and care planning.
- Respond to urgent surgical patient care issues and facilitate appropriate escalation to the attending surgeon when necessary.
- Collaborate with surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Complete medical documentation, orders, and clinical records in a timely manner.
- Participate in after-hours, evening, weekend, and overnight coverage as operationally required.

Schedule
This position does not have a defined FTE and offers flexibility based on operational requirements.
Successful candidates will be expected to commit to a minimum number of shifts annually. Scheduling expectations and availability requirements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
Qualifications:
· Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent.
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
· Demonstrated commitment to quality care, patient safety, and diversity, equity and inclusion
· Understanding of Just Culture principles in healthcare.
Preferred
Working knowledge of Connect Care (Epic).
