Position Description:
The Section of Newborn Critical Care, Department of Pediatrics, invites applications for four (4) full-time Clinical Associate positions.
The Clinical Associate will work under the direction of a supervising physician within a multidisciplinary team setting—including physicians, nurses, and respiratory therapists—to deliver acute neonatal patient care. The primary location is the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) NICU, with additional coverage at other Calgary NICU sites depending on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities: Working under the direction of a Neonatal Subspecialist, clinical duties include, but are not limited to:
• Examining patients and writing orders.
• Participating in clinical rounds, patient transfers, and discharges.
• Conducting medical procedures.
• Attending deliveries to provide neonatal resuscitation as needed.
Shift Details & Compensation:
• Schedule: Requires daytime, weekend, and nighttime shifts.
• Shift Duration: Maximum of 24 hours per shift.
• Time Commitment: Each full-time position is equivalent to a minimum of 1,928 hours per year.
• Compensation: Remuneration is based on hours worked.
Facility Details:The Calgary Corridor features over 130 NICU beds distributed across five specialized sites:
• FMC: Perinatal Level 3 NICU
• ACH: Surgical Level 4 NICU
• RGH: Level 2 NICU
• PLC: Level 2 NICU
• SHC: Level 2 NICU

Qualifications:
Medical Training: Must include training in both Pediatrics AND Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Board Certification: Must have, or be eligible for certification in Pediatrics, or Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (including the Subspecialty Examination Affiliate Program – SEAP).
Provincial Licensure: Must be eligible for independent practice licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Additional Certifications: Must hold active certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Liability Coverage: Must obtain and maintain appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage for this role.
Language Proficiency: Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
