Job Summary:
Recovery Alberta invites applications for the role of Clinical Medical Director, Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program, Calgary.
The Acute Care Addiction Recovery Program (ACARP) provides acute addiction medicine consultation, and treatment support in Calgary and Edmonton. The goal of ACARP is to offer evidence-based treatment to individuals who use substances so that they may pursue their recovery goals while admitted to hospital.
The Clinical Medical Director, ACARP, Calgary is accountable for the planning, implementation, and delivery of ACARP services at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) and the Rockyview General Hospital (RGH).
This role involves:
- Direct supervision of the clinical team
- Development and oversight of team workflow and clinical protocols ensuring high-quality, safe and evidence-informed standards of care
- Alongside the operational team, designing and implementing efficiencies and best team practices
- Working closely with hospital medical and operational leaders to optimize care at each site
- Supporting provincial efforts to expand the program to other sites in Calgary
- Managing scheduling across all Calgary sites to ensure continuity of care
- Oversight of clinical ARP
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and an understanding of addiction medicine in the acute care setting to effectively manage the complexities of addiction services and treatment in hospitals. Preference will be given to those with experience in medical leadership and a strong background of practicing addiction medicine in the acute care setting.
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency.
The successful applicant will preferably be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Addiction Medicine and/or a Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine by College of Family Physicians of Canada and/or Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine certification or equivalent.
In addition, the successful applicant shall:
- Have experience in provision of treatment of addiction and mental health in the acute care setting;
- Engage in formal administrative education and training if not done previously;
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment.

Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Provincial Medical Director, Inpatient Addiction Services.
Term:
Start August 2026

Additional Information:
This position is 0.3 FTE.
Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy for contracted medical leadership positions.
