Position Description:

We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6).

The Department of Paediatrics, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a Contingent Term appointment in academic paediatric haematology and immunology at the Associate Professor level.

Qualifications include an MD, certification or eligibility for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Paediatrics and Paediatric Haematology/Oncology, or equivalent certification from another professional association. Applicants must present evidence of an established, externally funded (at the level of Tri-Council or equivalent peer reviewed National/International organization) research program, a strong publication record as evidenced by a sustained record of publication, including as senior or first author. Applicants must show evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision, and evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of 15 years of active practice in Paediatric Haematology in an academic setting and a demonstrated record of achievement in research related to Paediatric Haematology and Immunology. The successful applicant will have experience and funding in clinical trials for paediatric rare diseases. They will also have demonstrated interest and impact in advancing the practice of precision health as an innovative approach to healthcare delivery. Candidates for this position should have an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in research, public health or a related field. Candidates must have a strong publication record, experience in grant writing, and have demonstrated success in obtaining tri-council funding for their research. Publications in peer reviewed publications will be expected, the annual rate of which will be dependent on the nature of the research in which the successful candidate is involved. Supervising trainees directly through research projects will also be expected.

The current Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) building opened in 2006 followed by the adjacent Child Development Centre and Rotary Flames House Hospice. The Department of Paediatrics has over 300 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include certification in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Candidates must be eligible for an independent practice license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
