Job Description:

The Family Physician serves as the primary point of contact for patient care within the community. This role focuses on diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic illnesses across all age demographics. The successful candidate will deliver comprehensive, continuous, and preventative healthcare while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Patient Care 

Provide comprehensive medical assessments, diagnoses, and treatments for patients of all ages. Manage acute illnesses, injuries, and long-term chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).Prescribe medications, therapies, and medical interventions in accordance with Alberta guidelines. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory work and imaging.

2. Preventative Health & Education 

Deliver immunizations, routine screenings, and wellness exams. Educate patients on lifestyle modifications, disease prevention, and mental health wellness. Support maternal, prenatal, and pediatric care initiatives.

3. Care Coordination & Collaboration

Refer patients to specialized medical professionals and community resources when required. Collaborate with allied health professionals within the local Primary Care Network (PCN).Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential Electronic Medical Records (EMR).

4. Facility-Specific Duties (Optional - check if applicable)Participate in local hospital inpatient rounds.

Cover shifts in the rural/local Emergency Department.Perform on-call rotations as scheduled.Conduct home visits or long-term care facility rounds.

 

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or recognized equivalent.
  • Residency: Successful completion of an accredited Family Medicine residency program.
  • Licensure: Eligible for or holding an independent practice permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
  • Certification: Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) is highly preferred.
  • Examinations: Passing scores on the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) qualifying examinations.
  • Safety: Valid Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Skills & Competencies: Excellent clinical judgement and diagnostic skills.Strong communication abilities for diverse patient populations.High cultural competence and commitment to patient-centred care.
  • Proficiency using modern Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software.
