Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Physician to join our multidisciplinary community medical clinic in NE Calgary, an area known for its cultural diversity, strong community relationships, and high demand for primary care services. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive patient-centered care while collaborating with a supportive team of healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care
  • Provide full-scope primary care services to patients of all ages, including preventive care, chronic disease management, acute care, and minor procedures.
  • Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, formulate diagnoses, create treatment plans, and follow up on patient care needs.
  • Manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD, asthma, and mental health concerns.
  • Provide pediatric and women's health services when applicable. This is a growing focus and specialty is a huge asset.
  • Perform minor office-based procedures (e.g., suturing, biopsies, IUD insertion, joint injections), depending on skills and comfort level.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging, and coordinate specialist referrals.

    Patient & Community Engagement
  • Deliver culturally sensitive care that reflects the diverse needs of NE Calgary's population.
  • Foster long-term physician-patient relationships built on trust and respect.
  • Educate patients and families on disease prevention, healthy lifestyle practices, and treatment options.

    Collaboration & Teamwork
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, medical office assistants, pharmacists, mental health providers, and other allied health professionals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews when required.
  • Maintain accurate and concise electronic medical records (EMR).

    Professional Duties
  • Adhere to guidelines and standards from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and Alberta Health Services (AHS).
  • Follow clinic policies, infection control practices, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in continuing medical education and maintain required certifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to providing equitable, inclusive, and community-oriented care.

    Assets (Optional but Beneficial)
  • Experience working with diverse and immigrant populations.
  • Additional languages commonly spoken are an asset ( Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Amharic, Tigrina, Russian, Ukrainian)
  • Skills in women's health, mental health, geriatrics, or minor procedures.
  • Experience with Alberta's billing systems (AHCIP) and EMRs such as Telus Med Access. If not, extensive one-on-one training and support will be provided.

Qualifications:

  • Have a current eligibility letter from CPSA
  • Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools
  • Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE Part I)
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency
  • The IELTS Academic OR The OET Medicine examination OR The CELPIP General examination 
  • Currency of practice-within the last 3 years. Fellowship training, community service, public service, national service, Medical Officer posts and practice experience don't fulfill this requirement.
  • Postgraduate training requirements for your discipline. 
  • Languages: Spanish is an asset
  • Therapeutics Decision Making (TDM) exam 
  • A criminal record check or police certificate is required from all locations you have practiced and/or trained for more than 90 days in the last 5 years. 
  • Patient Relations education is required 
  • College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP) (preferred)
  • Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC) (preferred)
  • Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities (if applicable)
