Job Description:

The GP is responsible for diagnosis, treatment, health promotion, disease prevention, and chronic disease management. This role works within Alberta's healthcare system, often in collaboration with Primary Care Networks, specialists, and allied health professionals.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care

Perform complete patient assessments, including medical histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.

Diagnose and manage acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD, mental health conditions).

Order and interpret diagnostic tests (lab, imaging, ECG, etc.).

Prescribe medications and non-pharmacological treatments in accordance with Alberta guidelines.

Provide preventive care: immunizations, screening tests, lifestyle counselling, prenatal and postnatal care, and well-baby/well-woman exams.

Develop individualized care plans and monitor patient progress.

Coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources.
