Consultant Cardiologist & Research Unit Lead
Position Overview
The CK Hui Heart Centre and Edmonton Cardiology Consultants, in partnership with the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, invite applications for a Consultant Cardiologist to join their distinguished cardiovascular team.
The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional commitment to patient-centred care, bilingual communication, academic excellence, and research leadership. This unique position integrates hospital-based and community-based cardiology practice within one of Western Canada’s most active and academically engaged cardiac programs.
Key Responsibilities
· Maintain a busy clinical practice through both CK Hui Heart Centre and Edmonton Cardiology Consultants.
· Provide comprehensive cardiology care across outpatient, inpatient, and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) settings.
· Within the CICU, demonstrate comfort and expertise with:
· • Placement and management of central venous and arterial lines.
· • Management of cardiogenic shock, including use of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and Impella mechanical circulatory support.
· • Insertion of temporary pacemakers and pericardial drains.
· Participate in cardiology ward coverage, including inpatient consultations and multidisciplinary case discussions.
· Perform and interpret exercise and pharmacologic stress testing and other non-invasive diagnostic modalities.
· Perform pacemaker implantation, programming, and long-term follow-up for patients with rhythm disorders.
· Provide leadership within the Cardiovascular Research Unit, overseeing clinical trials, academic output, and mentorship of trainees.
· Teach and supervise cardiology fellows, internal medicine residents, and medical students within the University of Alberta’s academic programs.
· Engage in clinical innovation, quality improvement, and ongoing development of evidence-based cardiac care models.
· Participate in local, national, and international collaborations to advance cardiovascular research, education, and global health capacity.

Qualifications and Experience
· MD (or equivalent) with board certification in Cardiology.
· Advanced fellowship training in Cardiology from an accredited institution.
· Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
· Demonstrated excellence in clinical cardiology with advanced competence in CICU management, hemodynamic monitoring, and device therapy.
· Expertise in management of cardiogenic shock and use of mechanical circulatory support (IABP, Impella).
· Bilingual proficiency (English and French) preferred, with effective communication in diverse clinical settings.
· Proven record of research productivity, publication, and mentorship in academic cardiology.
Preferred Attributes
· International academic experience or certifications (e.g., University of Alberta, University of Oxford, European Society of Cardiology, EAPCI).
· Experience developing and leading clinical or translational research programs.
· Commitment to innovation, teaching, and global health collaboration.
· Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a collaborative, team-based approach.
