This role will hold the responsibilities of both the Corridor Clinical Department Lead (CCDL) and the Corridor Clinical Department Hospital Lead (CCDHL). 

Reporting to the Hospital Medical Director (HMD), the Corridor Clinical Department Hospital Lead (CCDHL) and the Corridor Clinical Department Lead (CCDL) is a key leadership position for Alberta Health Services within Northeast Corridor the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre. 

In a competent and professional manner, the CCDHL and CCDL will promote an environment that fosters quality improvement, a safe and culturally diverse environment for staff, physicians and patients and a commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression.   

Some Key Responsibilities are: 

  • Effective and Consistent Communication to support front line practitioner engagement. 

  • Ensuring active two-way communication of key information information between the HMD and the front-line practitioners represented by the CCDHL. 

  • Meeting regularly with the HMD 

  • Regularly meeting with the Corridor Medical Lead (CML) and the CCDL’s front line practitioners. 

  • Accountability for practitioner-related matters and operational decisions requiring practitioner input or leadership that arise within a Department/Section of the Northeast corridor and NLRHC. 

  • Working with the CCDHL’s respective Operational Manager(s) in partnership to facilitate effective day-to-day operations. 

  • Advocating for the provision of high quality and safe patient care in the Northeast corridor and NLRHC. 

  • Serving as an arbitrator for disputes involving physicians and enabling any triggered review to be carried out in accordance with AHS MSBs/MSRs and Zonal MSRs 

  • Physician Workforce Planning, including reviewing and recommending privileging for practitioners working in the North Corridor’s department. 

  • Liaising with external stakeholders, and community members with the CCDHL’s operational partner(s) under the leadership of the CML and HMD. 

  •  Liaising with the HMD’s and the ACML to assist with practitioner performance reviews, quality initiatives, health service planning and other objectives as requested by the CML. 

  • Ensuring compliance of the CCDHL’s front line practitioners with AHS MSB’s/MSR’s, and Zonal MSR’s. 

  • Participating in two annual physician leadership development events (approved by the HMD and fully funded by AHS).  

  • Performing all duties as may be designated or delegated by the CML or designate.

Candidates must be Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) certified, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training
