Alberta Health Services – South Zone, in partnership with the Department of Medicine at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, is seeking a qualified Dermatologist to establish a full-time community-based practice in the city of Medicine Hat. This opportunity offers the chance to serve a diverse patient population within Medicine Hat, as well as the surrounding communities.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain a full-time Dermatology practice in the community of Medicine Hat; a full-time practice is defined as providing clinical activities at least five (5) days per week, a minimum of forty (40) hours per week, and/or providing commensurate shifts in keeping with other full-time practice FTEs as assigned by the medical leader responsible for the area of clinical service.
  • Provide comprehensive dermatologic care within a community-based clinic setting. Services to include, but are not limited to, medical dermatology, minor dermatologic procedures, cosmetic dermatology, laser treatments, and collaboration in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of skin cancer.
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate clinical privileges to consult and review patients at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. This position does not include access to an AHS outpatient clinic or minor procedure OR time. 
  • The physician is expected to comply with the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules, and all applicable AHS policies.
  • Establish a primary residence in the community of Medicine Hat or the surrounding area.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues as a member of the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital in support of patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably.

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
  • Have specialty certification or equivalent in Dermatology, or currently be enrolled in a Dermatology Residency Program;
  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
