The Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta and the Department of Neurosciences, Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone, invites applications for the dual appointed roles of Divisional Director (Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry), and Zone Clinical Section Chief (Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosciences).

 

The Division and Zone Clinical Section of Neurosurgery in Edmonton, Alberta, is composed of 17 clinicians and faculty members renowned for innovative clinical care, research, teaching and global health initiatives. These activities take place on the campus of the University of Alberta, and at Alberta Health Services and Covenant Health sites. 

 

This 0.3 FTE position requires an individual with a strong reputation for leadership who will lead with excellence within the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services. 

 

Reporting to the Chair, Department of Surgery, the Divisional Director is responsible for the management and leadership necessary to promote successful academic endeavors. Responsibilities include leadership support to the Chair in areas such as strategic planning and administration, academic and clinical programming, and fostering internal and external divisional and zonal relationships. The Divisional Director is a part-time role and will comprise an administrative portion of assigned duties. 

 

The Zone Section Chief provides leadership support to the Zone Clinical Department Head, Neurosciences, the Facility Site Chiefs, Section Leads, Facility Medical Directors, senior leaders and allied professionals in order to ensure appropriate and quality care through the efficient use of resources. S/he will be responsible for the development of quality and safety initiatives, as well as evaluating performance and privileges for physicians. The successful candidate also will be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of the Department of Neurosciences.

 

The position has an expected start date of approximately July 1, 2025, and an expected term of five years, renewable for another five-year term following a successful review. 

 

Qualifications: 

Candidates must possess a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPSC) fellowship, or equivalent designation, be eligible to work in Canada, and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.  Candidates should have evidence of formal administrative education and training.
