About the Opportunity
Covenant Health is seeking an experienced and respected Facility Medical Director (FMD) to join our senior medical leadership team. This is a pivotal leadership role that supports high-quality patient care, strengthens medical staff engagement, and aligns local practice with Covenant Health’s mission, vision, and values.
The FMD plays an essential role in building cohesive medical teams, supporting operational excellence, and ensuring that clinical practice remains grounded in evidence-informed, patient-centered care. This position offers a unique opportunity for a practicing physician to influence care delivery, guide medical staff, and contribute to organizational decision-making at local, corridor, and provincial levels.

Key Responsibilities
1. Medical Leadership
- Chair department or program meetings quarterly and maintain accurate minutes.
- Represent the site at Facility Medical Advisory Committees (FMAC) and relevant corridor or provincial committees.
- Serve as a primary liaison between Covenant Health, medical staff, Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs), and other Health Service Delivery Organizations (HSDOs).
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and support for Facility and Program Medical Leads.
- Promote medical staff engagement in teaching, research, and compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws.
2. Operational Leadership
- Collaborate with operational co-leaders to support physician involvement in service planning, access, and flow.
- Support organizational initiatives such as mission-inspired culture and accreditation activities.
3. Quality & Clinical Excellence
- Support quality councils and champion high-quality clinical care.
- Encourage best practices, innovation, and accurate EMR documentation to enable reliable clinical data.
- Advocate for evidence-informed care that prioritizes patient outcomes.
4. Physician Concerns & Professional Conduct
- Understand and support the physician concerns process.
- Assist with review and resolution of physician-related concerns, in collaboration with the CMO and DCMO.
- Provide guidance and educational opportunities to medical staff in relation to concerns or quality issues.
5. Workforce Planning, Recruitment & Retention
- Collaborate with Covenant Medical Affairs and partners to identify workforce needs 1–3 years ahead.
- Lead or delegate Search & Selection Committees for new physician hires.
- Support onboarding of new medical staff and contribute to long-term retention strategies.
Appointment Details
- Initial Term: 3 years
- Renewals: Up to two additional one-year renewals via email confirmation; a new contract issued thereafter.
- Performance: Annual reviews with the ACMO to evaluate progress and set development goals.
- Time Commitment: As outlined in the contractual FTE.
Selection Process
The successful candidate will be chosen through a formal recruitment and interview process led by the Associate Chief Medical Officer, with consultation from the Provincial Program Medical Lead (if applicable), site medical staff, and operational leadership.
