Alberta Health Services - North Zone, is actively recruiting a Family Medicine with Anesthesia Physician to establish a full-time practice in the community of High Level. This position will provide services in Community Clinic, Emergency Room Coverage, Anesthesia, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, and Long Term Care.
Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Reside in and have as his/her primary residence within the community of High Level.
- Establish and maintain full time community-based practice within the community.
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services.
- Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including equal participation in the Emergency Department and Anesthesia call schedules, as required.
- Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies.
- Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Family Medicine.
- Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs.
- Contribute to and participate in other administrative duties, as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care.
High Level is a town in northern Alberta, Canada. It is located at the intersection of the MacKenzie Highway (Highway 35) and Highway 58, approximately 733km (455 miles) north of Edmonton and 725km (450 miles) south of Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories.

With an abundance of unspoiled nature surrounding High Level there are many opportunities for sightseeing. The MacKenzie region has numerous kinds of wildlife including bison, bears, deer, wolves, wolverines, coyotes, foxes, and many different species of birds.
You will find a wide array of health services at the local hospital, the Northwest Health Centre. There is an exceptional group of dedicated health professionals which are responsible for delivering acute care, long-term care and community care. Services provided range from general services to high-tech specialist services, including obstetrics, endoscopy, laboratory services, indigenous health liaison services, nutrition counselling, occupational therapy, ultrasound and much more. In addition to the hospital, seniors can access a wide range of services and support programs, through the local Continuing Care Centre.
Seeing just under 18,000 emergency room visits per year, the Northwest Health Centre is an active 21-bed acute + 11-bed long-term care centre serving residents from a town of 3,922 (2021 stat); with a catchment area of approximately 15,000 residents (Mackenzie County). The community also hosts dental clinics, physiotherapy, optometrists, massage therapists, psychologists.

Required Qualifications:
· Current Alberta Practice Permit or valid CPSA Letter of Eligibility to practice in the advertised position (proof of to be included with application).
· Recent hands-on experience (within the past 2 years) in all areas of practice noted within the Description.
· Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
· Sole provider of Anesthesia services (Diploma required, with a minimum of six months pre & post diploma experience).
Desired Qualifications:
· Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
· College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP).
· College of Family Physicians of Canada – Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM).
· Geriatrics.
· Rural Emergency Room Experience.
