The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) is a collaborative partnership between Primary Care Alberta (PCA), Alberta Health Services (AHS), and the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine (CSM). The department encompasses Physician Services, Academic Family Medicine—including education, clinical services, and research programs—and six clinical sections that oversee the delivery of family medicine–related services across Calgary. While DFM operates as a single, integrated department, this position is specific to the Academic Family Medicine program. The DFM invites applications for a 0.4 FTE Family Physician Preceptor for a 6-month term at the Central Family Medicine Teaching Centre in Calgary.
Serving as a Family Physician Preceptor is a rewarding opportunity to influence and inspire the next generation of Family Physicians. Preceptors provide high-quality, comprehensive patient care while actively supporting the mission of the Department of Family Medicine, in partnership with the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine (CSM).
This role involves clinical care for a defined patient panel and participation as a Competency Coach for family medicine residents within an academic teaching clinic environment.
The successful candidate will:
- Provide clinical supervision, teaching, and mentorship to medical students and family medicine residents
- Deliver continuity of care to an assigned patient panel within a team-based Patient’s Medical Home model
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation and follow-up of test results
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with all members of the interprofessional care team
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to family medicine education, learner coaching, and continuous feedback
- Participate in evening clinics as scheduled
- Comply with CPSA requirements, including the Triplicate Prescription Program
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, scholarly activity, and clinical program development
- Attend clinical operations, academic, and team meetings as available
- Engage in relevant educational and interprofessional learning activities
- Support the development of new workflows, team-based care practices, and interprofessional education models
- Model professionalism, accountability, and ethical practice for learners, staff, and patients
- Demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

The successful candidate must hold:
- Active registration and good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
- Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
- Eligibility for a University of Calgary Academic appointment
- Demonstrated clinical experience in family medicine, with experience or interest in interprofessional, team-based care
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and within interprofessional healthcare teams
- An interest in quality improvement, health systems innovation, or collaborative care initiatives
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Current membership on Alberta Health Services’ Medical Staff, with eligibility for appointment within the Department of Family Medicine, Section of Community Primary Care.

Remuneration for this position is provided through our Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) that includes both clinical and non-clinical time. Details will be provided during interviews.
