Alberta Health Services, Central Corridor, is actively recruiting a Gastroenterologist with sub-specialty training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy to a fill fee-for-service clinical position at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

As part of the Gastroenterology team, you will share on call and endoscopy time, with no requirement of Internal Medicine or Intensive Care Unit call coverage. The Gastroenterology on-call is purely consultative, and the division does not directly admit patients. 

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the On-Call call schedule, as required; 
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Department of Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

 

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing practice or opening their own practice. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

 

Community Information:

The Red Deer Regional Hospital (RDRH) supports the over 450,000 residents of Central Alberta by providing approximately 12,000 endoscopic procedures annually. Services provided include upper gastroscopy, colonoscopy and endoscopic retrograde pancreatogram (ERCP). Surgical specialties represented include colorectal, bariatric, and thoracic. RDRH is currently planning an expansion. Within this build is the development of a 6 suite endoscopy unit with dedicated space and technology for advanced therapeutics and inpatient capacity expansion to 400 acute care beds. With the facility expansion we are anticipating growth in the capacity of our endoscopy unit.

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
  • Have sub-specialty certification or equivalent in Gastroenterology, or be currently enrolled in a Gastroenterology Residency Program;
  • Have sub-specialty training in Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy;

     

  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required
