Job Summary:
The Medicine Strategic Clinical Network (SCN) is looking for Medical Leaders to promote the Acute Care Bundle Improvement (ACBI) and Know Your Data (KYD) initiatives at the 14 largest acute care sites across the province.
ACBI is strategically aligned to deliver and enhance 8 priority quality improvement initiatives in AHS that include physician-specific actions embedded in Connect Care including:
- CoACT Collaborative Care
- Home to Hospital to Home (H2H2H)
- Elder Friendly Care
- Pressure Injury Prevention
- Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)
- HF, COPD, Cirrhosis Care Pathway
KYD is a provincial AHS initiative to provide individualized physician level and team-level data and a supporting quality improvement framework to move improvement ideas into practice. Through the initiative, physicians will reflect on clinical practice, identify possible opportunities to change and be empowered to make improvements to patient care.
One 0.1 FTE General Internal Medicine (GIM) Specialist will collaborate with each site to support the successful implementation and sustainability of the ACBI and KYD initiatives. A physician-specific, province-wide virtual Community of Practice will be formed to connect these individuals regularly to share learnings to apply to local contexts.
This work will serve to support physicians to complete the practice-driven quality improvement projects required by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta Physician Practice Improvement Program (PPIP).
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
Reporting to the site Facility Medical Director and the Senior Medical Director, Medicine SCN, the ACBI and KYD Site Physician Champions will lead and facilitate the following at your site:
- Participate in set-up activities and coordinate with the provincial ACBI team to identify local required ACBI/KYD learning needs and identify/encourage physician participation;
- Support physicians in making individual and team-level improvements to meet the requirements of the Physician Practice Improvement Program;
- Co-ordinate KYD peer discussions using the audit/feedback framework developed by KYD;
- Identify physician learning needs and coordinate with the provincial ACBI team to tailor education and project approach through participation in physical community of practice;
- Lead and engage the physician community and Connect Care Medical Informatics Lead regarding Connect Care optimization and champion use of the Minimum and Meaningful use dashboards for continuous QI;
- Share lessons learned with peers and all levels of site/zone medical leadership to support the assessment of ACBI and KYD implementation and outcomes evaluation;
- Lead with effective and influential communication, mentorship, celebrating successes and sharing best practices and improvements through better patient outcomes ;
Qualifications and Required Attributes:
Applicants must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

- North Zone: GPRH and NLRH
- Remuneration is based on CMO Policy 01-01.
