The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services–Calgary Corridor and the University of Calgary invites applications for the position of General Surgeon to work at the Rockyview General Hospital. Qualifications include an MD, a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery, and a health care focused MSc with emphasis on program development and evaluation. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta. The position will commence July 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of General Surgery. Clinical responsibilities include care for a broad range of elective and emergency General Surgical conditions seen in a busy urban general hospital. The successful candidate will have access to the main operating room as well as the minor procedure operative suite. The individual will be required to provide call coverage as required by the Section of General Surgery at the Rockview General Hospital and in accordance with Alberta Health Services policies.

The surgeon will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery and to participate in medical student, resident, and surgical fellow education. The successful candidate will periodically be required to participate in administrative work, the terms of which will vary based on career stage, ability and needs of the Division of General Surgery and Department of Surgery. The successful candidate will provide clinical care within a 90% clinical commitment and dedicate 10% of their professional effort to a combination of education, research, quality improvement, and surgical program development. The current area of non-clinical work will focus on the development and utilization of an RGH Acute Care Emergency Surgery registry.
