The Section of General Surgery at the University of Calgary, within the Calgary Corridor of Alberta Health Services, is seeking a General Surgeon who is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) with advanced training in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HPB) Surgery. The successful applicant will join the HPB Teaching Service at the Foothills Medical Centre, providing comprehensive care for benign and malignant hepato-pancreato-biliary conditions. This is a 1.0 FTE position, comprised of 80% clinical activity, 10% educational duties, 5% research, and 5% administrative responsibilities. Remuneration is through Fee‑for‑Service. Experience in minimally invasive surgery is considered an asset. Hospital privileges will be granted within the Calgary Corridor.

The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of General Surgery. The Section provides a full range case mix which includes basic general surgery elective procedures, as well as emergency procedures such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, bowel obstructions, necrotizing soft tissue infections, and other acute abdominal surgical emergencies. The surgeon will take call according to the site and Alberta Health Services policies. In addition, active participation in the Section through committee and research involvement is expected.
There is a strong academic vision in the Section, including a commitment to education, basic science and outcomes research and the development of research protocols related to clinical outcomes and/or medical education. The successful candidate will be expected to have an appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and academic credentials. The Section also runs an accredited Royal College General Surgery training program and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in medical student and resident teaching.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
