Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) North Sector, in partnership with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a qualified full-time Hematopathologist with fellowship training in Lymphoproliferative Disorders and Cellular Therapy. The successful applicant will also be considered for an academic faculty appointment with the University of Alberta’s Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. Pursuit of an independent and collaborative research program will be an expectation of this position. 

 

The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, with 100+ pathologists, functions as a Center of Excellence, supported by state-of-the-art ancillary testing capabilities (immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular pathology). APL North Sector offers a full range of clinical services including two level I trauma centers, solid organ transplantation, high risk obstetrics, Level 1-3 neonatal intensive care, hematology-oncology, and cardiovascular surgery services.  

 

Job Summary & Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will provide medical reporting, consultation for hematopathology, lymphoma pathology and cellular therapy issues on clinical services, and work closely with clinicians in hematology, oncology, transplantation, neurology, obstetrics, critical care, and cardiothoracic and trauma surgery. Clinical duties will also include offering medical oversight to technical and regulatory processes and procedures, including quality assurance, and occurrence management. The successful candidate will maintain the highest possible standards of practice. Part of the role includes education for colleagues, allied health professionals and trainees in postgraduate as well as undergraduate training programs. This position may include involvement and interaction with different APL laboratory sites within the city of Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a MD, eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta with either certification in Hematological Pathology, or in Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology/General Pathology with Hematopathology fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Pathology, or equivalence recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Additional fellowship training in Lymphoproliferative Disorders/Lymphoma Pathology and Cellular Therapy is preferred. 

 

A proven track record of collegiality and collaborative practice is required. The ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced hospital laboratory environment is necessary.
