Description:

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking qualified Pathologists with Hematopathology Fellowship or Hematopathologists. The successful candidate will join a team of 95+ laboratory physicians and scientists working mostly at acute care institutions within one of the largest groups of pathologists in Canada.  Participation in a multi-site hematopathology on-call rotation is expected.

APL is a multi-site, province-wide laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services.  APL South Sector processes 30+ million tests, 260,000 surgical specimens, 200,000 gynecologic cytology specimens, and 10,000 non-gynecologic cytology specimens annually. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a setting with a similar case complexity.

APL is a publicly funded wholly owned subsidiary corporation of Alberta Health Services (AHS) and is party to an affiliation agreement with the University of Calgary (UofC).  The DPLM and APL offers residency-training programs in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology, Neuropathology and Medical Microbiology, as well as Fellowship training in subspecialty areas within Hematopathology.

Job Summary & Responsibilities
Pathologists must maintain the highest possible standards of practice including prompt delivery of services to match established key performance indicators and provincial metrics, must actively participate in quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and must actively participate in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate medical teaching.

The ideal candidate will also be actively engaged in the development and validation of a novel flow cytometry assay for the detection of minimal residual disease in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The Flow Cytometry Laboratory within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) offers a comprehensive test menu encompassing over 60 assays, including immunodeficiency panels, leukemia and lymphoma diagnostics, and specialized platelet and red blood cell testing. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency and expertise in all these areas, supporting both clinical and research initiatives.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include a MD with eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta, and certification in Hematopathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology with subspecialty Fellowship training and/or Certification in Hematopathology.
