Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM), invite applications for the role of Inpatient Clinical Lead. This is a 0.10 FTE position.

The Inpatient Clinical Lead will be the point of contact for processes, policies, and clinical operations that impact the members of PHM and inpatient medicine clinical operations.

Additional roles and responsibilities for this role include:

-    Strategic planning and agenda setting with the PHM Clinical Care Committee and managing the activities of members within the PHM clinical pillar.
-    Participation as a key stakeholder in the ACH site Patient Flow Committee and associated working groups arising.
-    Maintenance and development of PHM-related clinical policies – both internal to the Section and those that are site-related involving medical patients (i.e. PHM scheduling policies, hours of physician shifts, integration of medical trainees on the service, aligning physician scheduling with patient care and site flow needs, early warning systems for inpatients, high acuity units, processes related to the new Connect Care EMR, provincial pediatric sedation processes for inpatients, processes related to subspecialty care integration, and inter- and intra-facility transfer processes).
-    Education and orientation of front-line staff to PHM inpatient clinical processes.
-    Partnering with the Patient Care Managers and Allied Health Managers.
-    Participate in monthly meetings with nursing care managers (PCM) of inpatient units.
-    Develop mechanisms for data collection regarding clinical activity and clinical service needs.
-    Development/maintenance of related clinical process documents and management of relevant SharePoint sites that house these documents.
-    Ad-hoc duties to support the Section Head and Section with clinically-related initiatives as directed (examples: QA review, patient concerns reports).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, analytics, strategic thinking/influence and a passion for quality and patient care.

Applicants must hold an MD and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Pediatrics.

Practice experience in Pediatric Hospital Medicine is required.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write, and speak English.
