Adult Intensivist with Cardiovascular Intensive Care Focus

The Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) invites applications for the position of Adult Intensivist with a focus on Cardiovascular Intensive Care. The position is for up to a full-time position within the DCCM. The successful applicant will be able to confidently work and provide excellent care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit as well any of the four multi-system intensive care units operated by the Department of Critical Care Medicine within Alberta Health Services - Calgary Zone. The successful candidate will be able to meet the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s requirements to both perform and interpret transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms in their practice. The successful candidate will also have a minimum of 12 months of formal advanced training in the care of the cardiovascular intensive care patient. This will include management of post-operative cardiac surgical patients, mechanical circulatory support as well as extracorporeal life support. Additional graduate training in research, education, or quality improvement will be viewed as a major asset.
The applicant will be joining a dedicated group of nine CV-intensivists as well as over 25 general intensivists with varied backgrounds. Alberta Health Services (AHS) - Calgary Zone operates four adult teaching hospitals in the city of Calgary that serves 1.8 million residents of Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia, and Southwestern Saskatchewan. The Department of Critical Care Medicine provides academic and clinical services in an integrated manner across all hospital sites and several ambulatory care settings. Calgary is a vibrant city (population 1.3 million) situated near the Rocky Mountains, Banff National Park and Lake Louise.

The successful candidate will have established reputation not only for excellence in clinical care but also scholarly pursuits. Service to support the educational mission (developing and delivering undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education sessions), quality improvement and assurance, and administration of the department is expected. The successful applicant will be expected to dedicate approximately 20% of their ICU related time towards one or more of these areas. The candidate is expected to have a Major Clinical appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine within the University of Calgary and be a member of the University of Calgary Medical Group. The successful candidate will be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with an MD, FRCPC, possess a specialist certificate or equivalent in Critical Care Medicine, and be eligible for full licensure with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
