Responsibilities/Duties

Alberta Health Services is currently seeking the services of an independently licensed physicians to assist in the management of medical inpatients in the Section of Thoracic Surgery, at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton on a locum basis. 

We are recruiting a physician to start as soon as possible. The successful applicant will provide scheduled service in the Section of Thoracic Surgery. Clinical responsibilities will include completing admissions, providing daily assessment and active management of inpatients, minor procedures and discharge summaries, in collaboration with the surgical team. Consults and teaching of medical students and residents is also required.  Hospitalists will be expected to work at least 4 to 6 days/month (13 hour shifts), shifts are Monday to Sunday, including weekends and holidays for 1 year. Potential to stay on as permanent may be reviewed at the end of the 1 year term.

Successful Candidates will have a functional knowledge of resources and challenges in Alberta’s primary health care system. This knowledge will be supported by the candidate having completed a two year Family Medicine Residency and by ongoing community primary care experience.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of Family Medicine. Ideal applicants should have ACLS and experience in the clinical management of acute medical inpatients. 

The successful candidate must currently be certified with the College of Family Physicians of Canada and have medical licensure in the province of Alberta.  This position is NOT eligible for AHS sponsorship of a College of Physicians and Surgeons Practice Readiness Assessment.
