Medical Director, Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), Central Corridor

Your Opportunity 
 
Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for a medical leader to affect change that will help AHS deliver on its promise of a patient-centered, sustainable healthcare system. As the Central Corridor Medical Director for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP), you will contribute to the development of a Provincial ASP by establishing and providing oversight for antimicrobial stewardship activities in Central corridor acute care sites and promoting a shared responsibility for improved antimicrobial use and infection management across AHS.  
 
You will work collaboratively with the Provincial ASP team to provide input on policies and guidelines, evaluate corridor-based antimicrobial prescribing, and facilitate the development and implementation of ASP initiatives. Other core responsibilities include developing engagement strategies amongst key stakeholders and supporting the education and participation in antimicrobial stewardship of Central Corridor physicians and prescribers. 

Job Description 
 
Reporting to the Provincial Medical Director of the AHS Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, and in conjunction with site-based ASP pharmacist(s), you will be responsible for the ongoing establishment, support, oversight and reporting of antimicrobial stewardship activities within the Central Corridor, with an emphasis on prospective audit and feedback and other needs-based interventions. ASP pharmacist(s) will work under your direction to ensure consistent and effective ASP activity at Central Corridor acute care sites. One of the first priorities will be optimizing antimicrobial stewardship at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and expansion to the remaining Central Corridor acute care sites.  
 
Additional responsibilities include chairing bi-monthly Central Corridor Antimicrobial Stewardship meetings and representing Central Corridor ASP at the Provincial ASP committee and other corridor-based Quality and Safety meetings. Additional committee or working group involvement may be required as feasible.
 
You will develop corridor engagement strategies to involve Administrative, Operational and Medical Leaders, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Infection Prevention and Control and other relevant parties in the mission of antimicrobial stewardship, as well as support the development of processes to promote prescriber understanding, behavioural change and participation in antimicrobial stewardship within the Central Corridor.
 
As AHS Antimicrobial Stewardship is within the Quality and Patient Safety portfolio, you will also work closely with the Quality and Patient Safety team.
