Job Summary:

The Physician Experience team is looking for an experienced Medical Lead, Professional Affairs to support the AHS Medical Staff Issues and Concerns processes.
 
The Physician Experience team in AHS strives to enable shifting the culture of the AHS Medical Staff to one that embraces inclusion, engagement, and personal/ leadership development along the span of the physician career. Through continuous improvement and trauma-informed leadership, and in close collaboration with various AHS stakeholders, the team works to promote a just culture to foster physical and psychological health across the medical staff life cycle.
 
The focus of the Medical Lead, Professional Affairs will be on restorative practices to improve linkages and referrals in the support of frontline healthcare teams in addressing workplace conflict; providing investigation support as required under the Medical Staff Bylaws and aligning processes with other organizational requirements such as collective agreements and occupational health legislation.

 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
 
The Medical Lead, Professional Affairs works closely with other Medical Leaders and non-physician staff of the Physician Experience team. The Medical Lead’s responsibilities include:
 

  • Providing supervision, guidance and training to Physician Investigators participating in the Concerns processes;
  • Responding to physicians who have questions about the Concerns process within AHS;
  • Participating in complaints/investigations involving Medical Staff;
  • Participating in the development and implementation of AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS CMO Policies, incorporating principles of restorative justice as appropriate; and,
  • Representing AHS and the Physician Experience team when collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Please note that the Medical Lead position is a 0.5 FTE.

 

Reporting Relationship:

The Medical Lead will report to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, Community Development, Strategic Communications, Medical Service Models and Compensation.
  
Qualifications and Required Attributes:
 

  • The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency and shall have or be eligible for certification with the Canadian College of Family Physicians or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
  • The practitioner will be required to obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment

  • Restorative justice courses and learning
  • Investigation courses and learning

Remuneration:
Remuneration is based on CMO Policy 01-01.
Within the ML2 level of the AHS Medical Leadership Compensation Grid and in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
