Job Summary:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applications for the role of Medical Lead, Virtual Health, Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC).

 

The Indigenous Health Commitments: Roadmap to Wellness aligns the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada to provide the framework for this position.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting, facilitating, and advocating for implementation and integration of virtual health services that will address the needs of Indigenous Peoples. This will involve working collaboratively with AHS operational and medical leads in the IWC and Virtual Health, to provide quality, innovative, and efficient health services to Indigenous Peoples and communities, including: 

  • Engaging and collaborating with Indigenous communities; 
  • Promoting a culture of safety;
  • Advocating for high quality care; and
  • Representing the IWC to ensure that Indigenous voices are heard.

 

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Providing medical leadership to the Alberta Indigenous Virtual Care Clinic (AIVCC);
  • Providing recommendations regarding virtual health service development and evaluation in AHS, Primary Care Alberta, and Recovery Alberta with respect to health services for Indigenous Peoples;
  • Effectively supporting, facilitating, and advocating for implementation and integration of virtual health services that will address the needs of Indigenous Peoples;
  • Aligning AIVCC health initiatives with existing and new clinical programs for Indigenous Peoples as an offering to receive health services through an additional medium of care delivery;
  • Advising physicians regarding use of virtual health for primary or specialty care delivery;
  • Promoting a culture of safety within AIVCC
  • Working with research associates to analyze and evaluate AIVCC performance and sharing those findings with the wider community.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have worked in Indigenous communities or with Indigenous Peoples. They will be an inclusive and visionary leader with the ability to build relationships, trust, and collaboration between AHS and Indigenous communities and have demonstrated abilities in communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, and a passion for quality and patient safety. The ideal candidate will possess superior interpersonal skills, an ability to mentor other Indigenous and non-Indigenous physicians and be able to relate and engage with Indigenous leadership and Indigenous organizations.

 

Candidates must be certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) and hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff.

 

Remuneration:

Within the CMLb level of the AHS Medical Leadership Compensation Grid and in accordance with CMO Policy 01-01.
