This medical leadership position works closely with Rural Medicine and Urgent Care medical and operational leaders within the Calgary Corridor. The Site Medical Director provides leadership and direction for site services relating to Okotoks Urgent Care and works in partnership with operational leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care.

  • Support the goals and objectives of Alberta Health Services, the Calgary Corridor, and the Department of Rural Medicine.
  • Collaborate with the Calgary Foothills Primary Care Network, as required to support operational delivery and patient care.
  • Lead physician recruitment, retention, engagement, and succession planning for Okotoks Urgent Care.
  • Ensure adequate physician coverage during all hours of operation.
  • Monitor physician compliance with AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Conflict of Interest requirements.
  • Investigate and respond to patient and staff concerns related to care provided by medical staff.
  • Work with Urgent Care leadership to define expectations for physician skills, scheduling, and professional development.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of clinical protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and local operational priorities.
  • Complete physician performance reviews as required under AHS Medical Staff Bylaws.
  • Advance quality, patient safety, and service delivery initiatives in partnership with Urgent Care medical and operational leaders across the Calgary Corridor.
  • Be an active contributing member of the Urgent Care leadership team.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) or equivalent specialist certification. 
  • Experience working in an Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. 
  • Eligibility for independent licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and appointment to the Alberta Health Services Medical Staff.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM) or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC). 
  • Previous medical leadership experience in an urgent care, emergency, rural medicine, or hospital setting.
  • Academic appointment or teaching experience affiliated with the University of Calgary is considered an asset
