Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a Medical Microbiologist for a 1.0 FTE position at the Edmonton Base Hub Lab (EDMBL), Edmonton, Alberta. APL is a provincial, multi-site laboratory organization providing comprehensive laboratory services and is a publicly funded, wholly owned subsidiary of Alberta Health Services (AHS). APL also has an affiliate agreement with the University of Alberta (UofA), providing opportunities for teaching, training, and collaboration.
The microbiology laboratory provides most acute care and community clinical microbiology testing for Edmonton and surrounding areas excluding viral and mycobacterial testing. The Department of Lab Medicine & Pathology, with 90+ medical and scientific staff functions as a Center of Excellence, supported by state-of-the-art ancillary testing capabilities (immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular pathology). The successful candidate would be joining a team of medical microbiologists that fosters and supports clinical and academic excellence, innovation, and career development.
Job Summary & Responsibilities
The position carries clinical responsibilities, including medical microbiologist on-call coverage, for Edmonton and surrounding areas, medical leadership of program areas within the microbiology laboratory, leading quality improvement and assurance initiatives, acting as a liaison between the laboratory and clinical stakeholders, and providing medical supervision of laboratory staff and technologists.
The successful candidate will be recommended for appointment to the University of Alberta, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, at a rank commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will be expected to train and instruct students and medical residents.

Minimum qualifications include a Medical degree, eligibility for medical licensure in Alberta, and certification in Medical Microbiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) (or being eligible for the same). Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
