Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, and the Department of Pediatrics at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic (Children's Rehabilitation Services), invites applications for a Neurodevelopmental Pediatrician to establish a full-time practice in the community of Red Deer. 

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Community Clinic Care (Pediatrician Referrals only)
    • Comprehensive Assessments
      • Evaluate children with developmental delays, behavioural challenges, and neurological conditions.
      • Conduct detailed medical histories, physical exams, and developmental assessment.
    • Diagnosis and Treatment
      • Diagnose conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, cerebral palsy, intellectual disabilities, 
        speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and genetic syndromes.
      • Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate care with therapists, educators, and other specialists.
    • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
      • Work closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and educators to ensure a 
        multidisciplinary approach to care.
      • Collaborate with families to provide education, support, and resources.
    • Management and Follow-Up
      • Monitor developmental progress and adapt management plans as needed.
        Prescribe medications and recommend therapies to address behavioural, developmental, and neurological concerns.
    • Teaching and Mentorship
      • Educate healthcare professionals about neurodevelopmental conditions.
      • Guide school and community organizations to improve awareness and support for children with developmental challenges.
    • Advocacy and Community Support
      • Advocate for children and families to access appropriate resources, including specialized educational programs and therapy services.
      • Engage in public health initiatives to promote early diagnosis and intervention.
        Research and Innovation:
      • Participate in or lead research initiatives to advance knowledge in neurodevelopmental disorders and improve treatment options.
  • Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Red Deer;
  • Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Pediatrics;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
  • Have or be eligible for Fellow, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) – Pediatrics, or equivalent;

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)
  • Excellent communication skills with families and colleagues are essential;
