Opportunity

Alberta Health Services is recruiting independently licensed physicians to join the Orthopedic Inpatient Service at the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH). This is a high-impact opportunity to help shape and deliver a modern orthopedic hospitalist model within Alberta’s only quaternary academic hospital.

Physicians joining the service will contribute to the care of complex elective and emergent orthopedic inpatients while working in a collaborative environment with orthopedic surgeons, learners, nursing, allied health, and hospital operations teams.

The UAH is a major tertiary and quaternary referral centre with strong academic connections to the University of Alberta and close clinical interfaces with trauma, critical care, internal medicine, anesthesiology, rehabilitation, and perioperative services.

Position Summary

The Orthopedic Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient medical care for admitted orthopedic surgical patients, including patients with both elective and urgent orthopedic conditions.

The role supports timely assessment, optimization, daily medical management, discharge readiness, and coordination of care across the inpatient stay. As the service evolves, the successful candidate will help strengthen workflows, care standards, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Multiple positions are available, both part time and full time. Preferences will be discussed with qualified applicants.

Why Join This Opportunity

·         Practice in a quaternary academic centre with exposure to complex patients and interdisciplinary care.

·         Help shape a developing initiative of the orthopedic hospitalist model to a Hospitalist MRP model, building a high functioning multidisciplinary team.  This will be a future iterative process with the hospitalist group requiring broad stakeholder engagement and development.
