Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, and the Department of Orthopedics at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, invites applications for an Orthopedic Surgeon to establish a full-time practice in the community of Red Deer. This position requires a scope of practice that includes: Community Clinic, Inpatient & Outpatient Services, Emergency Consults, and Orthopedic On-Call Coverage at RDRHC. The primary focus will be on hip and knee reconstruction at RDRHC. Involvement in committees with administrative, clinical, educational, research or other mandates is encouraged, but not mandatory.
The successful candidate will primarily work at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) but will also be expected to work at Olds Hospital and Care Centre and Rocky Mountain House Health Centre.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Red Deer;
- Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
- Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
- Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
- Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Orthopedic call schedule, as required;
- Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Orthopedics;
- Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
- Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
- Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care
Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre (RDRHC) provides a comprehensive gamut of services including general, orthopedics, plastics, ENT, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology and obstetric surgeries. Cardiac, thoracic, and neurosurgery surgeries are not performed at RDRHC. They provide care for both adult and pediatric (minimum age of 1) patient populations with 12,500-12,750 surgical cases performed annually.
Required Qualifications:
- Have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application);
- Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
- Have specialty certification or equivalent in Orthopedic Surgery, or currently be enrolled in an Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program;
- Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS);
