The Division of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Alberta, and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are accepting applications for a locum pediatric general surgeon as of now June 2026 (latest October 1, 2026) for one year, with possibility of renewal.
The Division of Pediatric Surgery is an integral part of the Department of Surgery and provides secondary through quaternary care services for the city of Edmonton, northern Alberta and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Yukon Territories and Nunavut. This position will be based at the Stollery Children’s Hospital; a leading clinical, research and teaching center, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The Stollery is considered a high-volume center for pediatric general surgery in Canada.
The successful applicant will fully join the pediatric general surgery group practice, who provide a full range of elective (clinics and ORs) and emergency services (on call) at the Stollery Children’s Hospital for patients up to the age of 18 years. Applicants are expected to have superior technical surgical skills, clinical judgment and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team.
The successful candidate must be a surgeon having fulfilled the fellowship qualifications of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery with subspecialty fellowship training in Pediatric General Surgery, and be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta.
Remuneration will be on a fee-for-service basis through billings submitted by the physician to Alberta Health. There is a possibility of clinical ARP. Clinics, OR time resources, and on-call will be shared with the group, and the secretarial support will need to be covered by the locum.
