Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics at the Alberta Children’s Hospital invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) Pediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist. This position is within the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and follows a Clinician Investigator career profile. The primary work site for this position will be at the Alberta Children's Hospital.
The target start date for this position is July 1, 2026.
Position Overview
This is a research-intensive role with the following approximate distribution of responsibilities:
• Clinical Activity: 30–50%
• Research: 40–60%
• Education: 0–20%
The successful candidate will provide expert clinical care across the full spectrum of pediatric infectious diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Research Expectations
Candidates must demonstrate:
• A strong track record of peer-reviewed grant success
• A robust portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, including work in high-impact journals
• A clear commitment to and direct experience with mentorship and collaborative research, supporting students, residents, and colleagues
While the group’s core research focus is on vaccine-related and vaccine-preventable diseases, applicants with interests in other relevant areas—such as immunocompromised hosts, tropical diseases, and epidemiology—are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the research output of the section and benefit from the rich research infrastructure at the University of Calgary, including initiatives such as “One Child, Every Child.”
Collaborative Environment
The Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases maintains close collaborations with:
• Pediatric Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation (regional center for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation)
• Pediatric Immunology
• Pediatric Intensive Care

Qualifications:
Qualifications include certification in Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
