Pediatric Neurologist - Alberta Children's Hospital- Calgary

Position Description:

The Department of Pediatrics (DoP), invite applicants to apply to a 1.0 FTE, AMHSP Pediatric Neurologist position, with subspecialty interest and training in epilepsy. The position is part of the Section of Pediatric Neurology at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, within Alberta Health Services, Calgary Zone.

The preferred target start date is November 1, 2026

This is a major clinical position with an allocation of 70% clinical activity comprised of a mix of contributions to activities in our epilepsy program (see below), as well as participation in general neurology service and out-patient follow-up clinics. The preferred candidate will have recent experience in an academic tertiary-quaternary center and will be appointed at a rank commensurate with experience. An ability to read and report EEGs is an absolute requirement, and an ability to read and report evoked potential studies is desirable.

The remaining 30% of the position will be allocated to individualized distribution of activities in education, research or administration/leadership in line with the candidate’s interest and the Sectional opportunities.

The position also comes with a concomitant expectation to contribute to on-call services provided by the Section of Pediatric Neurology to ensure 24/7 access to qualified expertise. This will be part of an equivalent share with the rest of the Section's full-time members.   
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
The successful candidate will join an existing group of 10 full-time Pediatric Neurologists and 6 part-time/affiliate/adjunct faculty. As part of the pediatric epilepsy program there is an opportunity to contribute significantly to epilepsy monitoring and surgical evaluation of infants and children, inpatient and outpatient routine EEG services, PICU & NICU continuous EEG monitoring, ambulatory EEG evaluation, a ketogenic diet program, vagus-nerve stimulation assessment and monitoring, clinical neuropharmacology, and clinical trials.  Our Pediatric Epilepsy Program also has a strong relationship with the Adult Epilepsy Program at the University of Calgary as part of a larger Calgary Epilepsy Program.

Within the broader Section of Pediatric Neurology there is a wide breadth of subspecialty expertise and interests in areas such as: headache, neuromuscular disorders, stroke, neurocritical care, neuroinflammation, sleep, neonatal neurology, fetal neurology, and neurodevelopment, as well as epilepsy.
            
The Section of Pediatric Neurology is based at Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) and provides comprehensive in-patient consultative services to all in-patient units, 2 NICU's (ACH and FMC) and one level two PICU within the Calgary region. The Section also provides out-patient clinical management, for a large number of patients with complex conditions, at the ACH. The approximate 2+ million population catchment area includes all southern Alberta, southwestern Saskatchewan, and southeastern British Columbia. Pediatric Neurology is well-established program at the ACH that receives exceptional support for growth, and a top-tier quaternary referral center. In addition, all members of the Section are encouraged to contribute to the academic mission, educational scholarship, and leadership opportunities within Pediatric Neurology, the Department of Pediatrics and the University of Calgary.
