Pediatric Ophthalmologist, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone
The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. This position would include hospital-based practice at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Vision Clinic as well as community-based practice.
The successful candidate will be expected to have a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery. The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Ophthalmology and the Section of Pediatric Surgery.
The successful candidate will be expected to commit to pediatric ophthalmology care, both clinical and surgical at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. There will be access to operating time at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Rockyview General Hospital and Chartered Surgical Facilities in accordance with section policies.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in medical student, resident and fellowship teaching, including direct clinical and surgical teaching and didactic lectures. The candidate will be expected to participate in the retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening program at all NICUs across the city. There is an option for an adult cataract surgery allocation if desired. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in the ophthalmology on-call group in accordance with the section of Ophthalmology.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology. The candidate must have completed a minimum of one year fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the province of Alberta with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. The candidate must read, write, and speak English fluently.
