Position Description:

The Department of Pediatrics invites applications for a part-time 0.10 FTE position as the Pediatrics Site Lead at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) within Alberta Health Services- Calgary Corridor. This position reports to the Section Chief of Community Pediatrics, and, ultimately to the Corridor Clinical Department Lead, Pediatrics.

The position is open to both internal and external applicants.  All external applicants will also be required to apply for the linked posting in Doctor Jobs Alberta for the 0.5FTE clinical position at PLC and be able work a clinically based contract in the Section of Community Pediatrics in addition to the site leadership role.

The target start date for this position is July 1, 2026.

The general position duties and responsibilities include: 

•    Providing leadership which covers the pediatric mandate of the PLC
•    Ensuring daytime Pediatrician coverage of the 12-bed ward (6 inpatient pediatric and 6 pediatric Med-Psych beds) and daytime consultations from the PLC Emergency Department (ED), Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH) ED and possible transfers from/to ACH inpatient wards. 
•    Ensuring coverage for the Well Appearing Febrile Infant Follow-up Clinic and Pediatric Urgent Follow-up Clinic
•    Ensuring there is a pediatrician available for consultations on admitted surgical patients at PLC under the age of 18 years 
•    Ensuring the weekend and night call schedule provides home call coverage for the inpatients and ED consults  
•    Overseeing the "PLC Preceptor Program" in relationship with the Pediatric Residency Program, the Family Medicine residency program and University of Calgary undergraduate medical education
•    Forming a dyad with the PLC manager responsible for pediatrics

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following performance indicators: 
•    Admissions per year (direct from PLC ED, ACH ED, SHC ED and transfers from ACH); patient separations; consultations to the service, transfers from PLC to ACH ward; ALOS: ELOS. 
•    Responsible for patient concerns related to the Inpatient Unit, Med-Psych beds and Newborn Nursery.   
•    Responsible for the important relationship between the Site and the NE community pediatricians in the Section of Community Pediatrics.
•    Responsible for the relationship between Inpatient Pediatrics and the City of Calgary Public Health screening and treatment of Newborn Jaundice program
•    Responsible for translation of PLC Pediatric Quality initiatives.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage with relevant committees including:
•    ZPEC
•    Pediatric Residency Training Program
•    PLC OB Leadership Meeting
•    Newborn Care Committee
•    PLC Med-Psych Steering Committee
•    Annual Department of Pediatrics Surge Strategy meetings.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD or equivalent and FRCPC in Pediatrics or equivalent. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation are also requirements of this position. 
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write, and speak English.
