The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Departments of Family Medicine (Division of Care of the Elderly) & Medicine (Division of Geriatric Medicine) in partnership with Acute Care Alberta invites applications for two physicians, based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty is recognized as among the world’s top fifty medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. Working in partnership with clinical sites across the Edmonton zone, the Clinical Section of Geriatric Medicine offers specialized services for older adults across acute, post-acute and community care.
Key accountabilities of each position are below:
Responsibilities include full participation in all parts of the service offered at the site as patient numbers expand. There is the opportunity for the development of subspecialty areas of care (e.g. orthogeriatrics). Participation in a weekly Geriatric Medicine outpatient clinic, out of hours cover (on rotation) as well as clinical bedside teaching is expected as part of this role. A sessional commitment to relevant subspeciality interest work for older adults can be supported.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered and arranged under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. Candidates will possess certification in either Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine) or Care of the Elderly (Family Medicine) with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or equivalent. Applicants should also be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
