The Deputy Division Head will report directly to the Division Head. Decision making will be a shared responsibility, with final decision-making responsibility resting with the Division Head.
Competencies:

Collaborative skills – a track record of working effectively with peers, learners, AHS staff, and operational leaders
An understanding of the relationships between AHS, the University of Calgary, and inpatient and ambulatory services in PMR in the hospital and the community.
Knowledge of University of Calgary processes around finance, legal and research services.
Knowledge of Connect Care
Responsibilities:
The Deputy Division Head Role will focus primarily on:
-inpatient care with U58, Fanning, Glenmore park
-community clinic relationships
-supporting research and QI processes
-assisting with reviewing physician reporting/annual reviews
-assisting with new physician hiring/contracting/orientation
-assisting with Physician Wellness
-patient concerns
-performing BBFE reviews/Safety reviews
-assisting with event planning (academic (rounds, journal clubs, faculty planning meetings)
Work will include but is not limited to, the activities listed below, however, as this is a new role in the Division, this may evolve or change over time, depending on divisional priorities and what is negotiated between the Division Head and the Deputy Division Head.
Inpatient Care:
- collaboration with appropriate operational managers to ensure care is delivered appropriately and physician needs are being met
- identify areas for process improvement in inpatient rehabilitation care
- identify resources (space, RN, clerical, offices) for new recruits
- maintain Unit 58 Call schedule
New Faculty
- Orientation for new recruits
o Including:
§ Inter-program referrals
§ triaging
§ clinical accountability
§ operational structures
Quality Assurance
o Patient concerns – in collaboration with the Division Head, respond to or delegate to appropriate leader, review responses and ensure done in a timely fashion
o Review and monitor annual accountability reports
Others at the discretion of the Division Head, may include:
- Assisting with periodic reviews
- Assisting with contract reviews, educational accountability
- Helping to identify candidates for promotion
- Assist with Divisional retreats, strategic planning
Activities:
- Meet regularly with the Division Head
- Ex officio member – AMHSP Management Committee
- Ad hoc meetings with the Vice-Chair Quality , DCNS and members of Quality Council/DCNS Quality lead
- Attend Academic Executive Committee when Division Head not available
Qualifications:
Specialty certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English.
