Recovery Alberta, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications to take the role of Psychiatrist to provide direct medical assessment, diagnosis & treatment of patients in Corrections facilities. There are two 0.1-0.2 FTE positions available at the Edmonton Remand Centre and Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre.
The Psychiatrist will provide direct medical assessment, diagnosis & treatment of patients and collaborate with facility clinical staff to treat the acutely ill patients. This includes telephone services and scheduled telemedicine that support health care providers at the Corrections Facilities across the province to assess, diagnose, and treat patients. They will remain fully informed on developments concerning the medical condition of acutely ill patients in cooperation with all other health providers in the Centre.
The Psychiatrist will authorize medications prescribed to patients, provide guidance and direction regarding health care matters, and identify opportunities for policy and practice improvements that will result in increased efficiency in the provision of health care to patients.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry, for licensure in the province of Alberta.
