The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for overseeing the integration and coordination of medical staff, leadership, and programs and maintaining effective partnerships with academic institutions and other physician-led organizations. As part of our Executive Leadership Team, you will
maintain a strong emphasis on the importance of quality and patient safety, engagement, leadership development, and relationships between medical staff and the health care system.

Job Description:
As the CMO, you will be responsible and accountable for all medical staff related matters and decisions requiring physician and practitioner input or leadership. As part of this, you will establish and maintain a Recovery Alberta Medical Affairs office, as well as a medical leadership organization structure. This includes establishing an integrated framework to use services via shared service agreements with Alberta Health Services and other providers. In addition, you will implement and ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and relevant professional standards of conduct and policies, including implementing policies and procedures to ensure compliance and required reporting.
You will be responsible for the evaluation of services provided by Recovery Alberta, implementing and maintaining appropriate measures to ensure the quality and safety of services, taking corrective action to address problems, and supporting and encouraging the ongoing enhancement of skills and training of medical staff. You will lead strategic and workforce planning to ensure an appropriate size and distribution of medical staff across the province, overseeing the application of best practices to achieve desired clinical quality outcomes and performance measures across the province.
As the CMO, you will develop effective relationships and foster a climate of cooperation with key internal and external stakeholders, including government, the Canadian Medical Association, the Alberta Medical Association, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the medical academic community, and related universities to achieve organizational goals.
With a provincial accountability, this position can be located anywhere in the province.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of eligibility for medical, dental or podiatric licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada or an equivalent professional body. Eligibility to be a member of the Recovery Alberta Medical Staff.
At least ten (10) years’ leadership experience in health care operations including three (3) years’ experience in senior leadership roles in clinical services or healthcare operations.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The new Chief Medical Officer will have demonstrated leadership abilities, including comfort with decision-making and exercising sound judgement. Additionally, the CMO is experienced in leading, supporting and assisting in development of medical leaders and experience leading Quality & Healthcare Improvement programs or initiatives.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to develop organization strategy and planning, as well as the ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage change to achieve positive results, modelling innovation and creativity.
The successful candidate has proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including interpersonal and public relations skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and mediate resolutions to complex situations. Can effectively manage relationships, with the proven ability to foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals. Additionally, you will have a proven record of engaging in ethical conduct.
Preferred Qualifications:
Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) credential preferred.
